Comments:
I wrote this song when recording "For My Dad" and it's been one of my favorites. I could hear the part "When e'er I roam So far from home" in my head so I knew there had to be lyrics for it.
When I picked up my guitar the moring of March 23 "So Far From Home" came tumbling out so I decided to try for the lyrics. About an hour later, mixed in with eating and email, I had them. I added a bridge before I finished the lyrics because I knew I needed one as soon as I started singing. I like the universality of the sentiment and the archaic folk style.
Lyrics:
So Far From Home
copyright 2006/2007 by Larry Heyl
Oh How I miss the kindly faces
Of my family and friends
When e'er I roam
So far from home.
I long to see familiar places
Where e'er my path doth wend
When e'er I roam
So far from home
When my travels leave me weary
And I need a place to rest.
There's nowhere I would rather be
Than that place I love best.
And so I count how many paces
Til my journey's at an end
When e'er I roam
So far from home.
